Vows

Thanks to Em, Bee, Mrs. B, Chocolate Lover, Alternative Bride, Buhdoop, LauraLou, and Sarah for your kind words yesterday!

I posted a while ago about the tough time I'm having in incorporating Ryan and I's different views of why we're together into our ceremony. It occurred to me a couple days ago that even though I think that Ryan and I were meant to be together, that choices still play a huge part in our relationship. I choose him every day. I could choose to be a single woman and do exactly as I please with no thought to anyone else, but I don't. Instead, I choose to be with him, I choose to make it work, I choose to put the effort in, I choose to cherish him and our relationship. I think that this would be a great thing to put in our vows.

I think that a happy medium has been found my friends!

Are you writing your own vows?

  1. I love the idea of incorporating that message into your vows. It’s beautiful and sincere. Since we’re marrying in the Catholic Church, we’re not allowed to write our own vows. But we are hoping to personalize things with special poems and readings that have meaning to us. I also plan to give a speech at the rehearsal dinner where I’ll say some of the things I would include in my vows, if we were writing our own.

  3. I knew you would get there. So happy for you! I love this post! There will be no vows during our Greek Orthodox wedding but I love the idea of it and are thinking of incorporating something similar at our reception. We'll see how it goes

  4. I totally agree that being in a relationship is a choice. Being committed and in a marriage requires you making that same choice everyday forever. I think you could write some great vows with those thoughts of yours.

  5. YAY!! That is so awesome. And very sweet. If you read those vows to me, I would bawl like a baby. *sniff* I choose you too! *sniff* I am still working on my vows as well. The fiance swears that he won't shed a single tear at our wedding because apparently, crying is for girls or wussies... so it is my goal to make him cry!! Happy tears of course! :)

  8. So sweet what you wrote. I am writing our entire ceremony almost! And I wrote our vows but also have some personal ones mixed in. I have the feeling when I ask him to write his vows, he'll refuse as he isn't much of a writer or public speaker. So we'll see what happens.
